COVID-19

Corona, Virus, Corona Virus, Coronavirus

Monday, March 30

Today, the Deputy Secretary & Commissioner for Libraries, Glenn Miller, sent out a memo indicating that all public libraries are to remain closed until further notice. This extension of our closure is in response to Governor Wolf’s Stay at Home Order, which is now active through April 30, 2020.

Monday, March 16

Tredyffrin Township has announced that the libraries will remain closed through Sunday, April 12. We now hope to reopen Monday, April 13. Please stay tuned for more updates.

Thursday, March 12

The health and well-being of all members of the Tredyffrin community is of paramount importance to us. Some members of the public have expressed concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus and its impact on the local community and community services.  We are monitoring the situation and working with Township officials on the best way to mitigate or eliminate exposure as well as how to address any issues should circumstances change.

Based on consultation with township administration and recommendations from health agencies, Tredyffrin Township Libraries (Tredyffrin Public Library and Paoli Library) are canceling all programs, events, and activities through April 12, 2020.  A determination as to whether or not to extend this timeline will be made in the near future pending more information.

We are also discontinuing any room rentals at the libraries through April 12, 2020. Again, a determination as to whether or not to extend this timeline will be made in the near future pending more information.

We hope that this will help slow the spread of COVID-19 and help keep the number of infected at a minimum.

At this time, the libraries intend to remain open on a normal schedule. Should circumstances change that result in the library schedule changing for any reason, that information will be communicated on our website. You may also call Tredyffrin Public Library at 610.688.7092 and Paoli Library at 610.296.7996 should you have any questions about library services or resources.

Should you decide not to visit the library in person, I would encourage you to make use of a number of electronic resources available to you from home including e-books, e-audio books, digital magazines, and databases. These resources are accessible through the links provided or through our web site at www.tredyffrinlibraries.org. Librarians at Tredyffrin Public Library and Paoli Library are also currently working to develop some online programming as a replacement to the traditional in-person programs that we offer. Notifications for any online programs available will be communicated through the website and through the newsletter.

For up-to-date information on COVID-19, please check the following public health agencies, sources of reliable, up-to-date information:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: https://www.cdc.gov/

Pennsylvania Department of Health: https://www.health.pa.gov/

Chester County Health Department: https://www.chesco.org/224/Health

World Health Organization: https://www.who.int/

While we realize that this may inconvenience some members of the community, we feel that this is the best option to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. Thank you for supporting the libraries and for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Christopher Kibler

Crime Time Discussion Group-Brandon Swanson

Case 2: Brandon Swanson

In May of 2008, 19 year old Brandon Swanson drove his car into a ditch on his way home from the nearby town of Lynd. He called his parents & asked them for a ride, telling them where he believed he way. However, they were unable to locate him at the location he claimed the car went off the road, despite both cars trying to flash lights to signal. Brandon claimed he could see the lights from the town of Lynd & that he would walk back to town.

Brandon & his father were talking via their cell phones when the young man said he would cut through a field as a short cut. 47 minutes into their phone call, Brandon exclaimed an expletive & his phone cut out. His father tried to call back several times, but the phone would not connect.

The car was eventually located, nowhere near where Brandon had claimed to be. Brandon Swanson, however, has been missing ever since.

We invite you to research the case and join us on Monday, March 2, 2020.

New Electric Charging Stations

Electric Charging Stations now available at TPL

Tredyffrin Public Library now has two electric vehicle chargers installed in our parking lot. The stations can be found by the parking lot entrance near the street.

This project was initiated and overseen by the Township’s Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC). It is part of the Township’s goal to identify public areas for installation of equipment to promote “green” or “clean” energy initiatives.

The cost of the charging units and the installation is covered by a program made available through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Costs associated with the operation of the charging stations is covered by the Township and will be minimal.  The Township intends to monitor use to determine whether or not to continue with the initiative. There is potential to pursue the installation of additional, more advanced charging stations in public spaces around the township in the future.

Those who drive electric cars are invited to take advantage of the stations when they are at the library.
