Tredyffrin Public Libraries Makerspace

The Makerspace at the Tredyffrin Public Library is a place for community members to make, learn, explore and share new ideas while using high tech or no tech tools which library patrons may not otherwise have access to.

Makerspace Equipment

You can request up to 2 paid prints monthly, each with a maximum print time of 3 hours.

  • The printing cost is based on weight, typically ranging from $.50 to $3.00 per item.

Files should be in .stl or .obj format for slicing and approval by Makerspace Staff.

  • Files can be either pre-designed or made on a library iPad. 

Submit prints via the TPL Makerspace webpage, during Open Makerspace hours, or by appointment.

Recommended Websites:

Using the Cricut Machine is free for most projects, but there is a 50-cent print fee for the print-then-cut feature, commonly used for vinyl stickers.

You are responsible for providing your own materials for Cricut projects. A list of approved materials is available from the Cricut website

Files should be in .jpg, .png, .svg, or PDF formats and can be either pre-designed or made on a library iPad. 

Possible items to create include templates, cards, T-shirts, posters, stickers, and more. 

Recommended Websites:

  • Cricut Design Space, Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, and Canva can be used to design files. Feel free to choose your preferred design tool!

You can print up to 5 pages per month, and each print costs $1.00. Max design size is 8.5 x 14.

Materials for sublimating on are not provided; you are required to supply your own. 

  • The recommended material blend for sublimation is 65% polyester and 35% cotton, with a higher polyester content producing better results. 100% cotton and dark materials are not suitable for this process.
  • Possible items to create include t-shirts, tote bags, socks, and more. 

Files should be in .jpg, .png, .svg, or PDF formats and can be pre-designed or created on a library iPad.

Recommended Websites: Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, and Canva can be used to design files. Feel free to use your preferred design software!

The library’s iPad lab can be used by appointment or during open Makerspace sessions.

The iPads are equipped with various software, such as ProCreate Design Software, Cricut Design Space, Tinkercad, Canva, and more. 

Apple Pencils and Mouses are available for use with the iPads. 


You can request up to 5 cutting or engraving projects each month at no cost. 

Materials for cutting or engraving are not provided; you are required to supply your own.

  • Dimensions are restricted to 8in x 10in and 5mm thickness for cutting. Please check the approved material list on the Beamo website.

Files must be in .jpg, .png, .svg, or PDF formats and can be either pre-designed or crafted on a library iPad.

Recommended Websites:

  • For Designing: Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, Photopea, and Canva are suitable for creating design files. You can also use your preferred design software!
  • Pre-made Files: Find resources on instructables and thingiverse

Library Meta Quest 3 Headsets can be reserved for a 30-minute time slot with a maximum of two reservations per month, for ages 10+ only.

Users are restricted to using apps that are predownloaded on the headset, which include:

  • Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, First Encounters, VRKarts, Tennis, and more. 
  • Meta TV offering virtual tours, documentaries, and additional content.

Makerspace FAQs

All ages are welcome in the Makerspace. Children under 9 need to be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older. For youth between 10 and 12, an adult 18 or older must be present in the building. Teens aged 13- 17 can use the Makerspace independently but must have a Makerspace Waiver signed by a guardian before their first visit. 

  1. Before submitting a request, please review the Makerspace policies, including appendices for the equipment you intend to use.
  2. Submit a Makerspace appointment request at tredyffrinlibraries.org/makerspace.
  3. We will confirm your request in 1-2 business days via email. This email will include an appointment date and time.

Note: Filling out a request does not guarantee an appointment.

During Open Hours, you can sign up to work on independent projects with the assistance of Makerspace staff. No lessons or prepared projects will be provided at this time. Registration is required.

Makers are required to sign a Makerspace Waiver during their initial visit and need to have a library card in good standing.
