Poehler and Fey

baby-mamaThe Dynamic Duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Baby Mama vs. Sisters

Review by Stephanie Bragg

From the stages of Saturday Night Live, I don’t know about you, but I fell in love with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.  These two are a couple of the brightest comedic minds of all time and they happen to be women.

sistersI was super excited when I first saw the preview for Baby Mama for the first time.  Tina Fey is straight-laced, hard-working Kate who has forgone marriage and motherhood for her career, until now.  Kate wishes to have a baby and cannot get pregnant “on her own” so she signs up for a surrogacy program where she meets Angie (Amy Poehler).  The procedure is done and Angie is pregnant with Kate’s baby, or is she. Angie and her boyfriend believe they are scamming Kate for the money but it turns out Angie is actually pregnant but doesn’t know if it’s Kate’s baby or hers.  This movie is hilarious from beginning to end with a fantastic cast surrounding our leading ladies, including Greg Kinnear and Sigourney Weaver.

Seven long years later Fey and Poehler released a second pairing, Sisters.  This time Amy Poehler is the straight (wo)man, Maura, to Tina Fey’s over the top Kate.  These sisters find out that their parents are selling their childhood home and they need to come back to clean out their room.  As teenagers Maura and Kate threw major parties at their parents’ house and since it’s their last chance, it’s time to throw one more bash.  The ladies are still surrounded by a fantastic cast but this time they didn’t strike gold.  Sisters sure has its funny moments here and there but Tina Fey does not play kooky and over the top as well as Amy Poehler.

Between the two films, I will always pick Baby Mama but take a peek at both and decide for yourself!
