Paoli Library Mourns the Loss of an Exceptional Volunteer

When Barbara D. Gaines lost her hard-fought battle against pancreatic cancer on June 21, 2010, Paoli Library lost a great friend.

With her beautiful Southern charm and grace Barbara served as Vice President of the Friends of the Library for several years. To this role she brought her intelligence and generous spirit.  

Barbara will be particularly missed for her constant smile and good humor, and her willingness to do whatever she was asked — and more. Even though she had to step down from her position last fall due to her illness, Barbara continued to be keenly interested in the activities of Paoli Library, and she enjoyed hearing about the plans for the library’s Centennial. As a Friends Board member she enthusiastically phoned in her “yes” vote for the Friends’ resolve to financially underwrite the year-long celebration. Her positive nature was so strong that she always insisted that she was going to get better and would be able to attend some of the Centennial events. Alas, that was not to be.  

Her loss will be deeply felt by all of us associated with Paoli Library, and we extend our sincerest condolences to her family.

About the Friends

The Friends of Paoli Library reorganized in 2006. Since then they have organized twice-yearly book sales, proceeds of which are used to support children's programming and other library needs. The Friends of Paoli Library will be planning the 2010 centennial of the Paoli Library and are seeking volunteers interested in helping to plan.  Please contact Betsy Allinson at betsyallinson@verizon.net.

BOOKSTORE

on the lower level of the library. You'll find great quality used books, music, movies and more. The Bookstore is open during regular library hours and will replace the biannual Friends' book sales. So, come often, browse and shop! Proceeds will benefit Tredyffrin Public Library.

The Friends are now accepting donations of books and materials. They can be dropped off on the main level by the vending machines. Thank you for your generosity and please note that we cannot accept following items:

About the Friends

The Friends of Tredyffrin Public Library is an independent organization whose purpose is to focus public attention on the Tredyffrin Public Library and to stimulate use of the Library's resources and services, to support Library policy in developing Library services and facilities, to enhance the library's effectiveness and to contribute funds toward library services under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the Friends are tax-deductible.

Friends present the annual Robert M. Goshorn Lecture, with guest lecturers who speak on history, especially topics of local interest. Friends underwrite many programs for children and teens, and make special purchases for the Library.
