DIRECTORS: From Stage to Screen and Back Again
Lecture & Book Signing with Susan Lehman
Thursday, June 13, 7:30 pm
Location: Tredyffrin Public Library

Despite the increasing popularity of academic filmmaking programs, some of the most exciting film directors have emerged from the theater world. Sam Mendes (American Beauty), Mike Nichols (The Graduate), and Orson Welles (Citizen Kane), among others, had very successful careers directing for the stage before transitioning to the screen and creating some of our most iconic films.
In writing Directors: From Stage to Screen and Back Again, Susan Lehman conducted a series of interviews with directors who worked on stage productions then moved to television and full-length features. She’ll share the unique artistic journeys these directors traveled and discuss what it is about a theater background that can create innovative and provocative work in film.
Susan Lehman, a former actor, director, and screenwriter, is assistant professor of TV and film at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA.
Directors: From Stage to Screen and Back Again will be available for sale and signing on the evening of June 13.
This program is funded by The Friends of Tredyffrin Public Library.
